Trunk swap instructions
Since i have been getting so many emails about this i thought i should post it for the community to see. I do appoligize because when i wrote this i wrote it to someone that i had already traded trunks with. But i read over it and still makes sense. If there are any questions i guess i can come back and post to this.
1. take the electric line to the light out from inside the trunk linning on the right side you should be able to fallow the wire. Dont worry just pull on the black tabs holding in the rest of the light..just be careful with the top light but you may have to give it alittle muscle also.
2. take both trunk lids off. Having two people will make this easier.. there are 4 bolts on each of the trunk arms.(a arm being what the lid sits on)
3. Switch locks..To do this there are 5 pull tabs over the locks its the black cover on the other side of the lock.. To open yours take a flat head screw driver and put it into the tab you should see it pritty easy and gentle pull up on it..then just pull out. Once all the pins are out you pull the silver bar(youll know it when you see it) off of the orange piece just pull the oposite way of which its being held..again youll see what im talking about once there. lay the silver bar down (one side is still conected dont touch that part). Then you pull the pull pin on the lock...its the only thing holding the lock in. You may have to give it some muscle i found that alittle pull up and then down motion while pulling to the right works best. DO NOT USE A SCREW DRIVER IT WILL SCRATCH SOMETHING. To put it all back just reverse the steps...but put corisponding pull pin with lock..it will help..once the new lock is in the right door put the silver bar back into the orange piece. then close it up.(your done with this part). Make sure it works before oyu go any further...
4.Trade springs..This is the hard part. Its best if one of you get inside the trunk head first as much as possible. two things you can do to make this easier. The front spring(indecated by the little latch in the middle look and youll see what im talking about) Pull it down and move it otward then do the next step..Also on your car the sti be careful of the water line..I unpluged it from the white clips just so it was dangaling and had more play(just a thought). Then while one of you pulls down on the connector a piece that moves towards you if your standing at the bumper on the trunk arm...take a look you will see it. This will get the top of the spring out One person moves arm as the other person pulls the spring down. then use gloves or a old t shirt and use leverage to get the bottom part off by pushing on the part that is still in with a upward motion. Then slide to the side and it will come out..be careful not to hurt the lining..You may have to bend the lining alittle it will be ok i promise..
Then to get the back spring out put the middle part of the spring on the first hook in the middle(move it forward a bit) this will help you get it out and the hardest part on the sti back spring... then do the same as you did on the other spring and it should go quick. Then do it on the other rex it should be alot easier springs are much smaller... Then attach back the trunk lids one screw in each persons hads line up the bolt with the paint(again you will see what im talking about). Do it top right bottom left.. and then do the rest... Before tightening it all the way do a check(slowly..it wont close if it isnt in the right spot.. so go slow its cool
once you get it in the right spot tighten it up and connect your break light. Since you are getting no wing there is no break light you dont have to worry about this part..
Last but not least take your sti badge..its yours and you deserve it. Take fish wire or dental flose(i think i spelled that wrong my bad). DO NOT USE A SCREW DRIVER TO WEDGE IT OUT YOU WILL SCRATCH IT
there you go
