Thule Kayak Hull-a-port on 96impreza L
Hey guys, I just recently bought a Thule 836 Kayak Hull-A-Port to add onto my existing Thule rack. I am buying a kayak in a few weeks so this is all in preparation for it. Anyways, I was messing around on Thule.com and configured a rack for my car but they don’t recommend ANY kayak attachments for my car. Is that cause the spread is not long enough? Has anyone else has this problem?
Thanks for any help,
Cody

Yep... Is your impreza a 2dr, 4dr or wagon? If it's a 2 dr and you don't have the 477 short roof adapter, you will need it. If it's a 4 door or wagon and it's not listed then they don't recommend it based on spead or weight, or haven't tested it. What kind of kayak are you thinking of getting? If it's a whitewater kayak or a shorter sea kayak then you are probably fine, if your looking to get a 17ft tandem kayak then you might reconsider. I put two 15ft sea kayaks on my old corolla and drove all the way to lake powell with no problems. Just make sure you secure the bow and stearn. Hope this helps.

Pelty, thanks for the info. my impreza is a 4dr and i'm getting a whitewater kayak which is gonna be about 7ft length at the longest. But do you really think I'd need to secure the bow and stern too? I would just hate having those ropes there but I guess if they're needed there's really nothing I can do. That is very helpful though, thanks.
wingless wonder- Honestly I just saw your post, I must have deleted the email that said pelty replied to my thread.

Your right... With a white water kayak you wouldn't need to secure the bow or stearn. The hull-a-port is solid, but if you were traveling a long distance it wouldn't be a bad idea to at least secure the bow. Happy Paddling.

I was thinking that maybe I could just get an additional strap and go through the bars of the hull-a-port and to the seat, or a rail inside the boat. That way it can't really slip out of the carrier. But I guess I have to see cause the last thing I want to happen is having my boat fly off while I'm on the freeway....wouldn't be pretty!
