Exclamation Tail light problem Desparately need help!

alright i have a 98 impreza RS and the tail lights and third brake lights stay illuminated just like when you press the brakes. also when i press the brakes my dash board lights dim, my front corner lights come on and my brake lights illuminate just the slightest bit. i checked the fuses, connections, and bulbs they were all fine. i just really need help finding out why my tail lights and third brake lights always stay on the brake light mode.

you might have a brake light switch sticking. test that first. it should be located on your brake pedal.

oh yeah i forgot to mention that the brake lights are only illuminated when the parking lights or when the head lights are switched on. but when they are off, the brakes lights act completely normal...so if it is sticking shouldn't the brake lights be on even if the headlights are off?

There is an unwanted cross-connection between the brake and parking light circuits. Most likely causes are improperly installed bulbs in the rear lights, or bulbs of the wrong type. A wiring problem is also possible. First thing to do is open up the taillights and visually check all bulbs.
