Tachometer wiring questions????

Tachometer wiring questions????
Hey guys/gals need some help here.
I have a 97 Legacy Brighton wagon that came OEM w/ no tachometer. So I went out last week and bought a tach. Took me about five hours to do the install and It still doesn't work. Everything lights up fine. Just not RPM readings???
My problem is after following the Autometer instructions, I may have hooked up the Tachometer wire to a connection that does nothing.
Where do I hook up the green wire on the tach to my car??? Green wire on my ECM?? I checked the back of my gauge cluster and no green wire back there either.. Please help
