Sylvania Silverstars for WRX Wagon?

Here it is...
Who has them on? Any Comments?
Is the install easy? How do I install - need help?
Model Number?
Like them or Dislike them?
Do they make them for the fog lamps as well?
What is the ideal upgrade for your lights aside from buying STI HID lights?
Thanks,
Rie

I have the silverstars in my wagon with the stock light fixtures. they are brighter than stock and aren't that blue light junk that looks snazzy but is really dim on the road. they are just a tad brighter than stock, and are a good replacement when one of your bulbs burns out, but i would not recommend them if you don't need to replace the old ones. i bought them at kragen auto parts for about twenty bucks, i think it is the 9007 model #.

I just put in the Phillips Hi-Visibility bulbs and they are definetly brighter than stock. There was a post on one of the other boards that said that they light up the road better than the Silverstars. Plus, they are less than half the price. I got mine at K-mart for $16.88 a pair (somebody posted a website where they were selling for $16 each). Either way, they are easy to replace. Just check your owner's manual. The hard part is unpluging the wire. Then you turn the housing and remove the housing and bulb. Fairly simple and can be done in 10 minutes as long as you have small hands.
I don't have the Silverstars but looking at the light, they are whiter than the foglights (the stock ones have a yellowish tinge compared to the fogs). Anyway, they seem to work nicely. Now I need to find different bulbs for my clear sidemarkers. They look really yellow compared to my headlights now.

I replaced mine with these:

You really don't want silverstars in your fogs, if you actually use them in fog that is:

I'm always a little baffled as to why people think that the whiter colour the light the better you can see at night. There is no real proof that this is the case. If someone has some real data showing this I'd love to see it. I've been searching but haven't come up with anything.

I have the Silverstars installed in my wagon (model 9007 ST). They are a great upgrade. I put one in while I still had the stock in on the other side and the Silverstar made the stock look very very yellow. There is a definite improvement. You have to be careful when getting other blue brighter bulbs, as they will melt your wiring harness. Not the case with the Silverstars. Reading other post I seem to have been ripped off at $25 apiece at PepBoys.
One the back of the box they state the color is 4000 K and a standard HID light is 4100 K, what ever that means?

the 4000K versus 4100K is refering to the temperture the bulbs the run at. Also part of the reason you're not suposed to touch the bulbs when putting them on, the oil from your hands burns up and does bad things ")
As for the SilverStars, I do a lot of night driving and got fed up with the dim as all hell stock lights so I went out and bought a set of the Silver Stars. paid $30 for the pair at autozone.
The stock bulbs are made by sylvania, so I figure replaceing them with other sylvania bulbs would be best.
The most noticable difference is the "clarity" of the road, you can easily see details of cracks in the road rather than having this hazy yellow mess in front of you.
As far as being brighter it's hard to say. it almost seems like the light is SO naturaly colored that you feel like you're driving around at dusk all the time. Maybe it's just me, I dont know.

I compared stock, SilverStars, HiVisibility and XtraVision in the stock housings, with my Prodrive lights with Philips VisionPlus as the standard.
Because of that silly blue tint, the SilverStars that we have here, aren't as good as the Osram SilverStars that they have in Europe. They changed the color temperature of the light, but didn't really improve your vision.
The XtraVisions were better (and cheaper) than the SilverStars. The Philips HiVisibility owned. They just obliterated the Sylvania offerings, in quantity, brightness and quality of light. The color temperature change wasn't as dramatic either, so you didn't get rain/snow washout.
Mind you, the H7 setup in the Prodrives kills the stock housings, but duh.
