STI spoiler mod

SO I passed a white STI the other day that had removed the top half of his spoiler. It looked pretty nice from what I could see.

Is it just removing the 2 screws on each side to take it off?

Are there large holes that need to be covered afterwards?

It would be nice to be able to slim down the wing for daily driving and put it on for the track.

Thanks,
JOhn

So there was just the bottom half of the wing left on the trunk? Sort of like a really wide U?

Damn that sounds strange. I'd have to see a pic before I could wrap my head around what I thought of that.

Imagine some of the civics and eclipses in particular that you see running around with just the supports but not fin between them, thats what it looks like, but a lil lower.

It looks wierd as hell

Sorry to say this, but no top half = eeeeww...
If you want something smaller, there's a JDM C/F piece that is essentially a different top half of the STI wing. Instead of going taller, it's just a horizontal piece that lays across the two bottom stands. I don't think it's commonly available yet though.

I agree that it seems really strange. Correct me if I'm wrong but youd essentially be taking your stock spoiler and removing the spoiler part. Sounds strange, ugly, and pointless, but then again, I think so is the sedan Whatever u like tho

I have kinda gotten used to the tall spoiler on the STI and I know it is functional, my main concern is attrating attention from the MAN.

Then again I should have choosen a dif color than blue and gold and tinted widows all around.

I think of it as taking the stock Wrx wing and bending the ends up.

If I get bored this weekend I might take it off just to see. I'll post some pictures.
It only seems like 2 screws on each side.

The JDM C/F piece sounds nice. Can someone educate me if I can paint CF and how close it would match the car?

The other option is the other extreme and go with the C/F WRC spoiler, would help with drifting, but I havn't seen that available.

Trust me, you really don't wanna drive around with the bottom half of your spoiler. I've seen many cars try this look and it just doesn't work.
CF is paintable, it just has to be prepped like any other piece. Ask Huck about it, he knows all about painting CF
Good luck finding this JDM piece though, it's extremely rare and hard to find.
As for a CF Rally Wing, do you mean like the one Seibon makes? Because that's even flashier than the stock STi wing!

So the top half is much harder to take off than I originally thought. There are 3 recessed nuts on each side plus some cable running into the spoiler.

Too much work for something I don't know if I'll like.

I figure if I'm going to have a wing that sticks out might as well make it extreme. I actually would like a replica of this yrs wing with the verticle slates.

I was hoping this is what the holes were for on the underside of the STI wing but no one seems to know what they are for.

I debadged the trunk except for the STI logo and and happy for now

STi spoiler is two pieces....The piece that bolts into the trunk, which he is talking about leaving, and the upper part which completes the spoiler, which he wants to remove. You would have to fill the holes or something i think if you were to complete this. There was some pictures in a thread @ NASIOC on this a while ago.
