Sti shift trim plate

Does anybody know how to install the sti trim plate for the shifter on a 2002 wrx. It looks like it is going to look cool but I think I might have to dig a groove into my center consol. Has anybody else done this succesfully yet?

its not that bad. i did it in about an hour. i bought the gruppe-s replica, half the price, looks the same.
what i did was remove the center pannel and then remove the shift boot. try to gently pry the little metal tabs off the rivets. they might break, so be easy. then hold the trim plate against the center pannel they way it would be if it was installed, and flip the whole thing over and you can see where you will need to file out some material. use a small round file if you have one, or a dremel tool. take your time cuz if you take too much out, then it will fit a little loose. once its in place, just poke some holes in the shift boot for the screws, install the screws, and your done.
