Only question was that I dont think you have to remove those 2 screws to take off the ring around the ignition. Atleast I don't remember doing that.

damnit dave! I was a day late and a dollar short! lol (literally) I broke all four condoms (which costed a dollar) and was a day late to see this post.....but my sharpie ghetto-rig seems to work fine and look the same

I just did this mod a week ago to my '03 WRX but I put in blue bulbs instead of red. The problem is that hte blue is not like a blue.. it appears more like a turquios color and doesn't match my radio at all. Are there an actually blue light bulbs I can get for this cuz the condoms are not working.

Nice write-up, but you don't have to take apart the HVAC the way you did (edit on the 2004s at least). The back of the bulbs accepts a screw driver. Just rotate the backing and give it a shake/pry and the bulb will fall out. That way you don't have to seperate the front from the backing. I used .2 diameter for the ignition and .12 for the bulbs in the HVAC. .2 will also fit the backlighting in the Lamco boost gauge if you have one of those.
