STi and DRL

I've had my car for almost a month, and i remember the Subaru dealer told me that the STi has Daytime Running Lights. Yes i see the low wattage bulb in the housing (which is the DRL), this light is always on, day/night. HOWEVER, during the day, when my lights are turned in the off position, when i put my E-brake down, my headlights turn on. So basically, whenever i drive, my headlights are ALWAYS on. Is there any way that i can disable this feature? I really wish to have only the DRL on during day.. any thoughts are appreciated

I'm not sure I understand this post? When your headlights are on during the day... those are your DRL (daytime running lights). They are always on. They aren't as bright as your regular low-beams. When the e-brake is pulled up, they shut off... when it's down, the lights are on.

This may be different on the 06 STI, because it has DRLs with the HIDs. Previous STi's with HIDs did not have DRLs. The system would not work the same way as on cars with halogens, because HIDs cannot operate at reduced power or intensity.

Ya my actually headlights turn on, as if it were nighttime. Once the ebrake is released, they turn on. I would really like to turn them off during the day, and i'd rather not keep my ebrake pulled up 1 notch.. lol.

thats the way it works daytime running light are just the headlights no running lights or tail lights.. with HIDs you can not use a reduced voltage so you get just headlights. if you check your tail lights and parking lights are not on during the DTRL function. then if you flip the light switch you get everything as long as the car is on.

I haven't looked at an 06 yet, but most likely there is still a DRL module by the passenger side kick panel next to the glovebox that you can disconnect. If it's similar to the previous setup it will be a large rectangular module (sort of like a big relay) with a 10-pin white connector (this could vary on the 06) and the module should say "Unit DRL" on it or something similar. If you find this just unplug it.

From: Are you too one of the few still living the past? Well I can change that! With a simple wicket. Yes, my friend, a wicket. PM for details.
Car Info: No car right now....sob.
There's a 10 pin connector chilling behind the glove box you can disconnect, which is the easy way to do it. I did it in my 06 day 1.
