STi cluster in a '04- but NO b28 wire
Hi
I am doing the STi Cluster swap. I have a question regarding pin B28. I am following the Scooby forum install how to.
I have already make the voltage regulator circuit and all. And now I'm on the final part, connecting wire B28.
Well, as I go through the wires, I noticed that there isn't a B28 wire coming out from the harness. I have a '04 WRX. So before I start connecting anything, i just plugged the cluster and started teh car up, and no issues. (Like others having their radio fuse blow out).
Do you know if the '04 eliminated this B28 wire/pin? If so, is the B28 just a "power/hot" wire thats on constantly or is it an ignition wire? if so I can just connect it to a power source???
Thanks
Waiman

hey i'm about to do the swap with my 04 so you say you couldn't find the b28 wire? since your install has the radio fuse blown? Let me know cause i'm about to do the swap today.

Yes I have a '04 and I swapped in a '04 STi USDM cluster. But on the WRX harness, there is no B28 wire coming out of the harness. So basically, the cluster (i'm guessing) is a direct plug and play cluster with no need of any wire cutting.
And NOPE, my radio is still working and I've had the cluster on the car for a few days already and still blasting my radio.
But my concern is, since there isn't a B28 wire coming out from the WRX harness, is the B28 wire just a regular ignition/hot wire? If so can I just plug in a ignition/hot wire to the voltage regulator (substituding for the b28) into the Voltage regulator. Cuz I want to get the OAT to work. I have good use for the OAT (for utec tuning).
Thanks
So yeah, as of now, you can just plug and play the '04 STi Cluster to a '04 WRX with no problems. Well that is what I've expereince. Worse case scenaria, if your radio does blow the fuse, then u probalby do have a B28 wire, but I didn't find one

you guys will be OK....there were so many variations of gauge cluster harnesses it will make your head spin.....The USDM STi cluster was designed for USDM cars....the JDM STi ver8 cluster on older WRX's need to have b28 removed. The JDM VER8 cluster doesn't work properly in USDM STi's at all (not that anyone needs to try this) If the wire isn't in your harness , don't worry about it.....The '02's and most '03's had b28......The '04 cluster harness was revised, something Subaru does often......so confusing....

THen, does anyone know how I can hook up the OAT sensor?
I would like to get this working..
What is teh B28 wire anyways? just a regular ignition/hotwire?

After looking thorugh the wiring diagram for the 04 wrx I cannot find any b28 wire in the diagrams. Looks like, as some one mentioned before, that the harness was revised and b28 is no longer there.

ok, since there isn't a B28 wire...
Does anyone know how to hook up the OAT sensor on a '04 WRX.
Can I follow the instructions found from scooby.com
http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3309
since us '04 guys don't have the B28 pin/wire, can we substitude that with just a ignition/hot wire and follow the same wiring diagram?
e.g. the use of the B8, B11 & B12 wire/pin?

Well, I'm lazy, so I'm not going to look it up for you, but I would think the OAT would hook up in your rex the same way it does in the STi. Try and find a wiring diagram for the '04 STi and go from there. My .02

So no one here knows what teh B28 wire is actually is?
well, heres a picture of the cluster
and a small video clip of it sweeping ;-)

wire b28 on the STI cluster looks to be a ground, but I'm not exactly sure if I'm reading the diagram right. If I had a scanner I would scan the page for you so you could take a look at it.

Hmmm, from the scooby.com cluster hookup page. It looks like that the B28 is not a ground.
How would a "ground" wire cause a fuse to blow. (for the clock & radio on the 02'-03's)

The fix I got from ravspec had me cut out two wires...When I go back to work next week I'll scan the page so you can see for yourself what the diagram looks like. I'm not a electrical engineer so I'm not 100% confidant in my abilty to read the diagram properly.
