Stereo Puzzler

I had a weird thing happen with the stereo recently. When I started up my WRX to drive home, the stereo wouldn't turn on. I pushed the power button a couple of times, just in case it was a simple loose connection. Nothing.

I stopped, turned the engine off, then back on again, still no stereo power.

Then, in the grand tradition of "If all else fails jiggle the wires" I started pushing every flipping button on the stereo. Nothing happend until I pushed the CD eject button. Then the stereo came on, ejected the CD, and has worked fine since then.

Maybe the car was just mad at me for parking it outside in the cold, I don't know.

No kidding?

"Try making a habit of lowering the volume, ejecting, or pause/stopping the CD before shutting off the ignition. Your stereo will love you for the effort."

That, in all honesty, is fascinating. I usually do adjust the volume before I shut the ignition off, so that if I have a passenger when I start up again they aren't blasted by the radio, but not that time.

And to think I was ready to dismiss it as a consumer electronics anamoly - one of those things that makes you say "Hmmmmm"

With the OEM 6 disk changer the sound you hear at first power up (or after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery) is the changer setting itself to home.

everything else you said is right on the money
