results of yesterdays project

I finally got around to doing a grounding mod yesterday. I have six new grounding points in the engine compartment. And I noticed a definite improvement in the idle, it's much smoother. Every once in a while it would do a little jitter, now that jitter is gone. I noticed when attaching the wires to the body the factory points weren't metal to metal. So I removed some of the paint right around the holes. After all was said and done it cost around 15$ and two hours. The actual job took 30 minutes but I had to run out and get some extra ring ends, the pack I bought only came with four.

If you haven't done this easy to do mod, I would suggest doing it. Even if you don't get any extra horses from it. The resulting smoother idle makes you car feel different enough that you're impressed none the less. That's my two cents.

Where'd you get the grounding kit? I've been seeing them on ebay, and thinking about it, but am kinda worried that its just a gimmick, since from other places they cost like 100.

For a grounding kit, all you really need are some properly guaged wires and connectors. You dont need to buy some pre-fabricated kit that costs $$$.

Yea, thats kinda what I was thinking, but I don't know how to ground it, like to where. I understand that your creating more grounded spots, but thats about it. Are there instructions somewhere? Thanx

This place sells good quality stuff for reasonable prices. I bought one and noticed a significant difference in idle. Smoothed out all the bumps at idle and in 1st.

Hey man. I did a whole bunch of research on the mod in question. And after actually doing it, I would suggest to anyone to do it as the first mod on their list. And to anyone that thinks it is a waste of time. Poo on them, Poo right on their face. I bet they never did it, so they wouldn't know anyhow. You are correct in thinking the whole purpose of the mod is to create more grounding points. A well grounded system is a happy system. I will tell you these words of help though. First off; if you don't want to go to home depot and buy ring terminals and wire, and then measure out the lengths you'll need, then crimp the ring ends on the wire, go to the link Stinkfist just gave you and buy the 30$ set from paranoid. That should come with directions. I will take pictures of my mod and post them here so you can see where I put the new points, so as to give you ideas of where to put yours. Second; go to your factory ground points and sand the paint down so there is only metal. (Make sure you're just stripping metal from where the ground will touch it and no more, you don't want your baby getting little rust spots) After all is said and done if you don't notice results, you did it wrong. lol no just kidding, but if you don't notice a difference, take the wires off and go back to stock.

OK, you've convinced me

2 questions, is the "upgraded" kit worth it, hows it better?

Its the same for the 2.5RS and 2.2 right?

Thanx

no, i would just get the standard kit, as the terminals are a little more heavy duty. and the gold ones dont really make a difference its just the bling factor that people like (even thoe you cant really see it after its installed).
oh, and yea, the 2.5kit does fit the 2.2

Yea, that truck was my baby, but just sold it to my brother as i have started to build my 71 land cruiser. that old truck was one tough truck. on my way to deliver it to my brother, i got into an accendent on the freeway, where the lady infront of me slamed on her brakes, to miss a ladder in the road, my truck would not stop in time, and i crushed about 4ft of her trunk up i only broke my front turn signel lense i also build great bumpers

Wow I have THE Paranoid Fabricator posting on one of my threads. That is awesome. I was wondering if you make a radiator shroud for the 99'RS. I noticed that bumper cover, what exactly is that for? Could I use it for the top of my radiator? Very nice work by the way.
