Question Removing STi wing and placing it back again...

For everyone who has the STi, would it be possible for me to remove the wing whenever I need to and then put it back when I want to? How many holes would there be on the trunk when I remove it? Any negative effects for doing this? Thanks...

There are ALOT of holes. I don't know the exact number but somewhere in the teens.

But would it be something possible to do? The reason why I am asking is because my father doesn't like the wing so the only way I can get it is if I take it off everytime he's in town (which is like only a coupe days a year) so is taking it off and then putting it back do-able or will I mess it up if I take it off?

What else do you hide from him when he comes into town?
Unless you're dad's gonna buy the part for you or he owns the car it would be installed on, you need to learn to take a stand, my man.

10 holes

You'll need a 10mm long socket to get the job done also, as a lot of the nuts aren't accessible by open end wrench and have the bolt going all the way through them

you could put the bolts back in the holes for those few days. It gives a sort of Mad Maxx style to the car. It also ensures not losing the bolts while the wind is off.

If anyone asks, tell them it creates turbulance thereby decreasing drag off the rear of the trunk.

There are 12 holes and you won't be able to put the bolts back through the holes seeing that most of them are part of the wing itself if it really bothers him you could just take off the top part it would look stupid but what ever..I am assuming he is buying the car if he has to like it you could always have the dealershipswap trunks when you buy it..It's been done..

I'm confused... are you getting an STi or just the wing?

You can always do a Trunk Swap with a WRX of the same color......Just swap trunks and lock solenoids. Best sleeper evAr!!!

Actually, the bolts slide right off the wing pretty easily.

The worst thing that you can possibly do is scratch your car everytime you put them on or off your car.

Another thing, if take them off, your gonna have holes in your trunk. (hopefully it don't rain or else those are gonna get rusted.).

w3rd.

A trunk swap can't get any better than with new trunks.

The wingless look means a LOT less attention from the cops, believe me, I still have the stock wing on my '04. Fortunately for me I know several LEO's, so I haven't gotten any tickets yet.

If you go this route, make sure the dealership also swaps out the trunk torsion springs as well as the lock cylinder, otherwise your wingless trunk will pop up way too hard...

Man you would be suprised at how many cops have no clue what an STi is.

The first time I got pulled-over in my STi (for reversing my dealer paper ones), the cop was so suprised that my car was completely stock. He was cool about it obviously, but he was shocked that the big spoiler, hoodscoop, stickers, brakes, wheels and badges came that way from the factory!
