Exclamation Rear view mirror broke off, mount and all!

I've had my windshield replaced twice since I got my car brand new back in '02. First time was because a rock put a huge crack in it while driving on the freeway. Second time was because during a very hot California summer, my rear view mirror FELL off! Yes, fell off. It actually broke off the glass that it was mounted on. So when it fell/broke off, the glass behind the mount was still attached to it. Both times were replaced through my insurance.

Well... It's happened again! The rear view mirror has fallen off, again along with the glass of the windshield. I've never hung anything too heavy on the mirror, just a Broadway mirror.

Have I just always got a replacement windshield with cheap glass? It's been a few years since the last replacement, so I don't know what brand of glass it is. If so, what brand should I be requesting?

Also... Has anyone modded their rear view mirrors? For example, somehow mounted the mirror onto the roof/liner? My husband and I were thinking maybe it's possible to mount some kind of aftermarket rear view mirror from where the 3rd visor screws in.

What can you guys suggest? Thanks! For now, I actually attached my Broadway mirror to the 3rd visor. It's ghetto, but it has to do for now until I replace my windshield, which has to happen in the next few days.

nevermind i reread and i get it.

if your insurance is covering it, why dont you just whatever company you have doign the glass use OEM.

either that or they are using the adhesive to mount your mirror.

i would go with a different company this time around and get OEM. you shouldnt hav eto worry abotu it then

Unfortunately, it won't be covered by my insurance this time around. So, what I'm getting from your response is to go with an OEM windshield.

Any places you would recommend?
