HKS Hiper is 50-state legal. You can get documentation from them for it. That's why I plan to get one myself when I save up enough scratch

get a quiet muffler like prodrive or stromung and you won't even get bothered to show proof that you are legal....

I have some bad news - it may not be street legal in CA. Here's something that another member brought to light about 50-state legal exhaust systems. I checked out the CHP link in that post - it's disappointing. Being cited for noise is strictly up to the discretion of the officer. They are not required to use a sound level meter, just their subjective opinion.

I think we stand a better chance of running free-flowing exhaust if they are relatively quiet and don't have huge rice tips to attract attention. I run a 3" dual-tip Stromung catback and can pull up next to CHP or police and never get a glance. If you get pulled over for one offense, it's almost inevitable they will get you for others during the same traffic stop.

ok, im really getting heated. As of yesterday, i am totally catless. :-) (smells like go-kart). Anywho, i pull up to a harely at the light. As we just chug along, his bike was so much louder than my car!!! What is that? Seriously, why dont they bother the bikers instead of us.

I live in Daytona Beach, and we have 'Bike Week'(lasts 3, minimum) and 'Biketoberfest'(~10 days) every year and the f'icking bikes are so loud you can get brain damage from them...but do they get pulled????
NO!!! the F'icking pigs are pulling locals, late to work because of the bikes, and writing them up!!! If my car was that loud, I'd go to jail and the car would end up at auction somewhere.
Bikers get preferential treatement, selective law enforced(NOT) on them and I have to pay in many ways for it.
As far as I'm concerned, the pigs and bikers can all go straight to hell.

If the cop didnt use a decibel (sp) meter when he wrote you the ticket.. go to court and make it known.. if you look in your local laws it will state what the legal limit is.. I got pulled over when i had my z24 and the cop let me off but not before he got his stern words in..

50 state legal is in reference to emissions. a catback exhaust is pretty much legal for emisions everwhere. Its SOUND that gets you busted. In California its 95db. CALL your manufacturer and get them to fax documentation to you if they have any. I have it for my HKS Hipower. I keep it in my car with a copy of the reciept. If the officer sees it, he might let me go. If not, then I will bring it to court. You can also get your db level documented by many car audio shops. Its not legally binding or anything, but if you take the ticket all the way to court at least it looks like you've done your homework.

Also, if you are in California this might interest you after you check which part of the CVC you were busted on:
