PIAA 580 Install - 2002 WRX
I spent a couple hours installing a set of PIAA 580 driving lamps today. My wife killed a stock one on the freeway the other day and that was just the excuse I needed to replace the crappy stock fog lights.
I made my own L shaped brackets that are attached using the stock Subaru hardware and used the PIAA wiring harness included with the kit. Installation was pretty easy and the most time spent was cutting, welding and then drilling the four holes. I used the PIAA splice connector and ran it off the driver side parking light. This way I can run the driving lights with either the low or high beam... not really legal but it lets me better control the light.
If anyone is looking for a light upgrade that looks pretty stockish this is a winner. I paid $160 for the lamps (eBay - brand new!) and everything else was built using scraps from the shop. I'm going to weld another tab to the L bracket to let me move the lamp further back in the pocket. I've never liked the look of the STI covers and don't really care about whether or not I can run them... but with the mounting tab moved further back the 580's will sit far enough back that running the cover would not be a problem. I only mention that because lots of people seem to want the ability to run the STI covers with aftermarket lights.
Aloha

Cool, glad to see someone made these work, I just ordered a kit that includes a pair of 580 fogs, brackets switches realys -the whole shootin match-
costs (quite) a bit more than the 160 you spent, but hopefully install will be even easier.
And even with the list pricing, having replacable lenses will pay for itself when the next rock comes up-
Subaru wants over $150 per light!
