I saw a group buy in the Bay Area on painted side skirts not too long ago, I think it was $80. The shop normally charges $160 for painted side skirts.

Anyways, my buddy got his side skirts painted during that group buy. He's had them for maybe 6 months now, and there have been no noticable problems with paint chipping (at least that I can see).

Of course, this all comes down to the quality of work which may vary from shop to shop. But if you get a halfway decent job done, I don't think you'll have to worry about the paint chiping off.

Why not go with the OEM painted ones?

I got mine in that group buy. So far they are holding up really good. And I've had em in the snow like 9 times and drug em across ice going in and out of the drive way a few times....and been in gravel a few times too...no mud flaps...

I'll need to change that soon....can only hold up for so long...

but so far so good. Just make sure if they do it that they sand and prep them.

I've had them since December and they're holding up great!
I would've thought that they'd chip more, but my sideskirts still look as nice as the day they were installed (after the painting; erm, almost)

No. I spent two hundred on mine.

And who says that you have to keep your old black ones? I just tossed mine after I put the painted ones on. I suppose I could have found someone who wanted them.....

I just like the idea that I wouldn't have to worry about the paint matching perfectly, and I wouldn't have to be out of my car for a day. I got the skirts delivered and installed them in 15 minutes. Done. Piece of cake. The extra $$$ was worth the convenience to me.

Oh, and they have held up great!

On average, about how much does it usually cost to paint the side skirts?

You got a good deal then. $400 was a bit over, but subaruparts.com has the OEM painted skirts listed for $250 + shipping. Though they only come in white, PSM and WRB. Which means if your car is any of the limited edition colors, you are SOL.
