Not the only reason. In densely populated urban areas they are more of an annoyance than a safety feature.

I know quite a few people who have disabled the DRL's on other makes of cars just for looks. They like driving around at dusk with the parking lights (or STUD lights )on.

i pulled my DRL b/c going on to military bases you will blind the guards in the morning. it is a courteous thing you should do. also i like to have my lights off when parking infront of my girlfriend's apartment building (stalls face directly into the bedroom 3 ft away) so i don't wake up the neighbors with my lights shining into their bedrooms.

There is another way to do it. If you open your hood and look on the left side of your engine bay you will see a black cover in front of the strut tower. Take it off, and if you look down you will see the daytime running light module. Just unplug it or take it out completely. This is what it looks like.

The pic above is the underhood resistor module, not the main DRL module. Pull that one only if you never plan to modify your lights, otherwise do the main module by the glovebox.

Brento, thanks for the picture. Your post by far is the clearest one I have found. And I read that to disable from inside rather than the engine bay will protect the plugs once it's unpluged from dirt and moisture.
