Very common problem in the BD/BG Legacy's. Check out this thread on Scooby Mods:

Another alternative is to use LED's and choose a cool color like blue

is the hazard light a long or short bulb and would you recomend going to a subaru repair for the bulbs or just a generic auto store. Also could you elaborate on how to do the LED's. I have a bright blue stereo and it would be awesome if those could match.

I haven't done it yet, but you can check out this thread for some tips: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=457346
I'm all fixed it took just 20 min. to fix I had 3 blown bulbs life is great $9.00 for 3 bulbs 20min to replace and now I see the light. Thanks again for the help oh and just disconnect the cable down at the heater core case and you will not have to fool with the 2 cir-clips up at the control unit.

I just replaced the bulbs BUT you can remove the condoms and what I used to do that works great is buy a Marks allot perminent marker they come in Black (of course) but they come in red and blue you can color the bulbs with the marker to change it from green to red or blue it works great this was a good fix if you needed a red buld for a clear lens you could just color the clear one.

I have a 98 Legacy wagon. Six months ago, the tiny bulb in the AC switch went out. The dealer told me he couldn't order a bulb. He couldn't order the switch with the bulb in it. Subaru would only sell him the 'complete climatizer control unit' for the dashboard. I confirmed this with Subaru in NJ by phone.
Frustrated, I carefully studied the bulb in its tiny plastic socket and realized that only 'bent wires' held it in place and made contact with the PC board it 'snapped' into. I went to Radio Shack and bought a package of two 12-volt 'micro lamps' for $1.50 (part number 272-1092). Using tweazers I simply 'removed' the bulb from the snap-in 'socket' by un-bending the wires. Then I reversed the process, installing the new bulbs, bending the wires over the 'tabs' on the socket base and reinstalling it. Putting the new bulbs into the 'old' sockets took all of 5 minutes. It cost me 75-cents for the bulb. It's been working fine for 6 months. The other bulbs in your Subaru climatizer control are similar. Before you get talked into some outrageous replacement cost for a 'new bulb', take the old one to Radio Shack and see what they have.
