Just how fragile is the wrx bumper? Ok so I am waiting STOPPED at a guard booth, bickering with the guard when wham! the dumb *** behind me bumps me from behind. The bump was enough to make my head snap.......So Im thinking I want to kill this guy naturally.....(his idiot passenger was trying to tell me that there is not damage to my car and that i am making it up that those marks were already there) I promptly told him he was full of BS. Anyhow I wanna know is the WRX interior bumper something that is very fragile or what? I noticed some small stress related splits in my bumper. (yes i did report this to insurance)

hopefully got the other drivers ins...
anyhow inside the bumper is a bunch of styrafoam (sp?) so it could all be busted up from that small of a bump... other than that there is a steel bar need to hit it somewhat hard to bend it although a ford exploder going app. 10-15 mph deformed the entire back of the car, had to have it stretched back out. :\

actually the bumpers are just abs plastic and it will rip tear and have scuff marks pretty easily. if it's nothting serious, just some scuffs here and there, get some paint or some filler and buff it up and it'll look brand new again, as for the other guy that hit u, sucks for him cuz even the slightest dent on your bumper, he's going to pay to replace it for you.

Cars havent had strong bumpers since the 80's. They got rid of the functional bumpers for the looks back then. My first car, an 89 Lebaron could take a 5mph hit with 0 damage! Now its like you touch anything and smack, its gone....
I took a hit on the side of the highway (both of us were pulling over to stop after a 5-car accident in front of us) from a 92 Corvette in the right rear; just a superficial dent. He grazed me, going maybe 10-15 MPH.
Even then the only option the body shop gave me was full replacement. They have been working on Subies for 17 years, and he said there was no way you could patch and paint the ABS bumpers on current Subaru models, especially Silver Metallic like mine.

Bumper skins are relatively cheap, as body parts go- I've replaced both the front and rear on my wagon, I think each was under $300 for the part.
Getting them painted and installed is where the costs pile up.

Just had my rear bumper replaced... some old fool backed into my bumper at a donut shop ( extreme slow speed ) but was able to crumple my bumper (which popped back out) and disturb the reinforcement behind it. The bumper cover had to be replaced (they said it was possible to repair but if the other guy is paying why bother), and the rod or bar behind it had to be tapped back into place. The bumper cover itself was only about 25% of the cost, the rest was labour & materials.
