I think my cheese has finally slid off the *******.
Ok so I had so here is the story, 5 issues and one conclusion.
Issue 1
I picked up a new stereo head unit, new component speakers for the front and new 2 way speakers for the back. I installed them in april and was disappointed that the front speakers were so quiet you could hardly hear em.
So the order of the day was to pick up a 300 watt 2 channel amp.
4 months, 5 component woofers, and every wiring configuration you can possibly think of later we arrived at the conclusion that the amp was too dirty and a little too powerful for the components. So I picked up a 4 channel 250watt amp and 2 8” subs to be powered with the old amp.
So I needed to find a home for this stuff, run all the wiring, make new enclosures for all the speakers (including door) and then install some sound deadening material.
Issue 2
My friend decided that it was time to get serious and ditch his SMT 6 piggy back and go full stand alone on his supercharged stratus. So he hooked me up with one heck of a deal on the piggy back and all the tuning bits. So I need to get access to the ECU under the passenger carpet to do all the wiring.
Issue 3
Carpet is looking shabby.
Issue 4
My uncle works for an automotive seat covering company and is going to be re-covering my seats for me with black and red perforated leather. BTW, the new ford mustang seat covers fit the front seats almost perfectly!!!
Issue 5
The 2000 RS coupes are a bit too twisty for my taste so I plan to stitch weld all the interior pans together and maybe throw a 10 point cage in it…. To get at the seams there is a lot of rubber nose deadening to get rid of.
conclusion.
I gutted the poo out of the interior! The passengers and drivers seats and seat belts remain in there standard configurations so safety is not compromised. The rear speakers have been jimmied into place and I will just have to do without fronts for a bit. I must say the car feels a bit more peppy. I don’t know if its lack of weight or because its sounds so much nosier inside!! It will be driven like this until I finish the work bit by bit.
I think lee needs some thing at work to keep him mentally amused. *the picture is of the drive shaft tunnel behind the passengers seat, Lee is written in seem sealant*
I will post progress as it happens.

All that grubby tar based crap in the floor boards is gone.
It took me 3 hours with a heat gun and putty knife to scrape out the passengers floor boards. This morning I woke up and smacked my self. I forgot that I had an air hammer and a chisel attachment. After about 1 hour of noisy, cleaner, and less impact work the job was done, drivers floor, rear floor, drive shaft tunnel, rear deck, and trunk.
Tomorrow I start welding and coating with por15.

All 35lbs of tar is out of the car!!
I started in on the welding. All the passingers front pans are stitch welded and POR 15'ed. Gotta say not bad progress for a couple of hours after work that would have been used watching tv stuffing cheetos in my food hole.
After I get some decent welds I will post pics.

here are two quick pics of the process in action.
I first took a grinder and whire wheel to clean off paint and rust around the pannel edges and welded 1"beads about 1" appart from each other all the way around the pannels.

Once the welding was done I painted the entire floor pans and over the seams and welds.

God, Im an idiot!!
I was all happy that yesterday I finished the welding in the passenger compartment (all that’s left is the trunk). When I jumped in my car to move it the rear speakers sounded like crap. It sounded as if some one put a bag full of BB’s on the rear deck. It instantly dawned on me. I never took out the rear speakers even when welding and grinding on the roof beams directly above them. Pretty much when you weld little metal bits go blazing away from the weld and when they drift by a magnet (like in a speaker) they are attracted to it…
Well, that looks like another $100 added on to the price of this project…

Its actually moving along quickly.
I work 5 days a week from 7am-5pm
then on Mondays and Wednesdays I have school from 6-9
I usually spend about an hour or two working on it 3 days a week. Good way to blow of some steam.
The rear door cards are coming along great, will post pics soon

sneek peek pics at the rear door cards.
I made a fiberglass blank of both front and back of each card, then on the backs glassed in a box that fits in the fender void, and on the fronts mounted a speaker ring above the surface and stretched fleece over it. The idea is to get a good solid enclosure for the rear component speakers that will look custom but subtle.

and they are mine, sould go along nicely with these that I picked up a week or so ago.

Im not too worried about the seat covers being shabby, because as I mentioned before my uncle is hooking me up fat and re-covering them with red and black perferated leather. I am worried about how they will feel, if they will be comfy enough for a daily driver.

I am still wating for those stuipd sliders.
The seller apparently is going through a tough time and likes talking to me, so 4 months later and I still dont have them.
My uncle is making great progress on re-covering the seats for me.
The stitch welding is done, and every thing is por-15ed.
I havent touched the fiberglass work in a long time (ever sence one of the pannels warped on me because I added too much backing material all in one shot).
Hopefully by the end of february I will be out of debt and ready to rock on the project again.
Next step is going to be roll bar, and get the fiberglass done!!

I cant believe this crap!!!!
I still dont have those stupid seat brackets. I got so fed up I just ordered a drivers on off ebay so I could atleast do mock up.
Im job-less right now so getting out of debt by the end of feb is outta the question.
on the plus side the engine project is humming along nicely.
My old employer out of the blue said to me 'the old mechanic left this stuff behind and its just getting in my way, you want it?' and handed me two huge roles of dinomat!!
I might just get my butt out into the cold and get the sound deadining done in the doors and start on some of the rack fabrication in the trunk.
who knows.
