Someone was gonna trade me their Sti wing and trunk for my wrx wing and trunk. But they just got the car and are not sure how to tell if the wing on it is a genuine sti wing or only a replica. How can i tell. What can we look for to know it is real.

Did it come off of an 04 STI?

 

it is on a wrx. thats why i am not sure if it is real.

 

hmmm well maybe his trunk is a wrx trunk also. Is their any difference between a wrx or sti trunk

 

WRX and STi trunks are identical.

 

Which wing version is it?

 

I havent really been looking for them but I havent seen any replica 04 STI wings. Only replica's of older versions, v6, v7, 22b, etc. My guess is that it's a real one. There's plenty of people out there doing the swap these days.

To be sure I'd suggest checking the install on the inside of the hood to see if all the bolts are in the right place and look stock. Check the fit of the 3rd brake light and other joins.

 

thanks for the help everyone. the only problem is the person i am getting it from is pretty far away so i cant just go check it out before i buy it. he is gonna send me pics soon though, so i will post them and see what everyone thinks.

 

if im not mistaken genuine subaru sti wings have to be passed by the dot. that means that dot should be on the wing.

 

just checked- the only place i found "dot" is on the bottom part of the wing on the rear lamp section.

the wing is said to be a v8 wing

 

i tried to get a better pic but the "dot" is too small to come through. so i took the "overview" pic. but the "dot" should be on the brake light area somewhere near the middle section
