Any CF hood is probably going to need hood pins. They are so light that they'll flap in the wind without them. The hood latch typically isn't enough...

I don't know if they still make them or not but someone used to make an all carbon fiber hood... not carbon fiber with a fiberglass frame that didnt need hoodpins.

I have been wanting a carbon fiber hood also, but i just cant decide!

I thought they only wighed about 5 lbs less than a standard WRX hood. I dont think hood pins are a necesity when the savings is that minimal.

What kinda cars are we talking about here? If it is the WRX, yes they do make an all carbon fiber hood including a carbon fiber frame. VIS is one of the good brands that make these and I have the hood on my car. Believe it or not, they're almost as heavy if not heavier than the stock hood. The cheap ones that have a fiber glass frame are real light though, those ones you might want to put hood pins on.

ViS does not make it in all cf anymore i think... well at least for the GC body... tried to get one but they said they don't do it since its too thick and will start to rub in the engine bay or something.

fiber images should be the best one out there if you have the money.. weaves are tighter and you can get it with more options.. even other color fibers i think. i heard their hoods don't bend or flex and you can run over it without a scratch

That doesn't make sense. Carbon Fiber is lighter & stronger than fiberglass, so why would a 100%c/f hood weigh less than a fiberglass hood w/ a c/f veneer? Anyways WRX hoods are light weight to start so I don't think you will be saving a ton a weight either way.

CF hoods are mainly for style or for the hardcore dieticians when it comes to the WRX (the stock aluminum hood is already very lightweight). If you want a CF hood anyway though, I suggest C-west (for the rich) and Seibon (for the reasonable).

I didn't say a 100% CF hood would way less. Then again I guess you could argue that it all depends on the quality. I've had 2 CF hoods, one was half CF and half fiberglass which was given to me from a friend, and a 100% VIS all CF hood. The VIS hood definitely weighed more since it's higher quality hood and the resin is a lot thicker than the no name brand half CF/fiberglass that I previously had, which was a lot thinner and lighter. The fiberglass that they use on those hoods are not as tightly packed as the ones you see in body kits.

I like the CF hoods but some told me you can't get the STi hood scoop to go with it. That's the only thing holding me back

Rockin (SN Seraph) did it fine with a Seibon hood: it originally came with the Aqua-style reverse scoop, but since he's still running the TMIC he just slapped his stock scoop back on.
Seibon also makes hoods with the STi scoop as opposed to the reverse scoop.

like this ryan said..it doesnt save that much weight, and another i-club ryan told me the cf hood doesnt do too much anyways, but then again, i personally love the looks, like those guys with cf spoilers..do they really need it? *ahem* ryan, lol, how much do cf hoods go for? im sure the answer will help simprez...cuz if its like 500 something, performance mods would be cool too.

Yea the good quality CF hoods will run you $500 and up. Here's a picture of my car with a VIS CF hood and stock hood scoop.
