hood protector

I bought a hood protector for my new 05 WRX and am worried about scratching the paint while installing it. Also, the hood doesn’t close very well after it is installed. Does anyone have any tips? How well does the hood protector work at protecting hood from rocks? I am thinking about getting a bra but don’t like how they look. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Im not really sure why they offer a truck style "bug guard" for the hood when your bumper gets more thrashed than your hood, and it doesnt help the airflow into your intercooler either.

The newer ones offered by Subaru for both '04 and '04 and bugeye are supposed to have the trailing edge milled off from the section leading to the hood scoop. This is to prevent the air flow from being diverted over the scoop. I haven't seen any pics of this newer version.
