Hey, there's got to be some of you out there who converted your stock 02/03 bugeye housing to accomidate HID lighting, right? I really don't want to buy new housings cause they're $$$, and i like to keep it "stock" on the outside. I do have some questions though. and before you ask, yah, I have done some thorough searching here on I-club and lots of other places...
the three main issues i need resolved are:
1. in the HID's the "arc" of light is generally longitudinal (i.e. front to back), but in my standard halogens it is horizontal (side-to-side) -- will this negatively change the light pattern that ends up hitting the ground (or oncoming drivers...)
2. I know that most kits for the 9007 replacement only have one "arc" point, so you'll loose the high beams, not really a big deal, i got some extra piaas in the bumper for that. problem is, can i get the top cutoff point down low enough by reaiming the headlight housings to not **** off oncoming traffic?
3. and lastly, will the "low voltage" daytime running light feature F up the ballasts/ lights by sending it low voltage? and might the ballast F up that wiring by attempting to draw high amperage through a ciruit not designed for it?
I have a shop here in Oregon who'll sell me phillips bulbs and ballasts for $350. I really want them if they won't have any of the aforementioned issues.
thanks in advance, Benji

Installing HID retrofits into factory halogen lights does not generally give good results since the housings are not designed for the higher output and different dissipation of HID bulbs. You may indeed get very bright light, but with a lot of glare and scatter which will bother oncoming drivers. This is the main reason why in '03 the NHTSA made all such retrofits illegal and prohibited their further sale in the US.
A proper HID retrofit would involve replacing the reflector units with HID projector units. There are places that will install such units into your stock housings, or you can DIY if you are so inclined. There are threads here and at NASIOC describing such retrofits.
Second best choice is to replace the OEM light housings with projectors which will yield better results with HIDs, although still not as ideal as with OEM HID housings.
This is not something that should be done on the cheap, if you can't afford to do it right it's best to stay with your existing lights.
