HID Stock lights

I was thinking of converting my stock headlights to HID. but i was wondering if HID's work well with the stock headlight? Would the rays of the light be unproportional due to the shape of the headlight?? Has anybody tried HID's in the stocks?

thanks

Is this for the 02'-03' bugeye or the 04? As far as i remember the 04' HIDs that came on the STi are reflector-based, so you shouldn't have any problems putting in HID in those. But for the 02'-03' usdm units, i have seen some pretty erratic patterns with it.

I think they would work fine if you get a good kit.

I have HIDS with the stock housing. I have only been "highbeamed" twiced and i had them for about a year + and this was from older people. what i did was aimed the lights a little lower so that it would not blind oncoming traffic. with the lights aimed down, i still get a better light output than stock. I have vowed to never go back to halogen lighting.

ditto what hokusai posted. best. asthetic. mod. evAr. I get into other cars w/o hid and squint a little because of how the headlights are on those cars

ive heard the 04 sti and 04 wrx impreza have same exact housing, but the reflector patterns are different quite a bit. I just looked at an STi yesterday and its very hard to see the difference.....

people say the reflectors are different, but from a glance, looks exactly a like...
i got HIDs and will be putting them in this week on my 04.
will post pics as soon as possible as well as reflectors.

I got pulled over for tint and I didnt realize I had my HIDs on. so the cop walked around the car and looked at them (6000K) and didnt say anything but he did see the blue bulb in the high beam and gave the tix for that. I love HIDs and cant wait till I put them on my WRX. they are on their way

i purchased the 5000k kit from importhookup.com.

i installed one side, and matched the top of the beam pattern with the other, oem hallogen side.

then i installed the other side, and matched that to the first.

i've never been flashed.

the pattern is actually better than i expected, after hearing all the horror stories of hids in hallogen reflector housings. it has a pretty damned good cutoff, and the expected LHD shape.

it makes a very large difference while night driving.

cons: you give up your high beams. i circumvented this with a pair of hella ff1000's mounted in the fog holes, actuated w/high beam circuit.

Do you have a diagram of the wiring for the high beams you added?

hokusai,

i did three things:

a) removed DRL module under glovebox (always a good place to start).

b) directly grounded the low beam switched ground at both headlights (this is to prevent the low beams from switching off when the high beams are activated).

c) installed a relay, which is actuated across high beam switched ground (found at factory headlight harness) and common headlight +ve (also at factory headlight harness). the relay energizes the driving lights.

i can draw up a schemo later, if you need it.
