no, its real...i saw it in person on someone else's WRX....its designed differently so it doesnt deflect air for the hood scoop....but for me personally things like that arent for me....neither are bumper moldings....hope this helps...

It is indeed real. The dealer tried to sell me one with my WRX way back in the day

 

As announced in Drive Magazine, the difference between this offering and the earlier one is that the trailing lip on the deflector is removed so that airflow into the WRX hood scoop is not disrupted. It still protects the front of the hood from bugs and rock chips but won't help much with bugs hitting the rest of the hood.

if you go to the dealership, they are only offered for the sti, i went there yesterday. the part number can be found in the sti accessories booklet at the parts counter.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a picture of the WRX version?

I think the headlight parts of the deflector look fugly on a bugeye so I'd want to chop those off and between that and whatever they cut out of the center to keep air flowing, wouldn't be much coverage left really... oh well.
