Fog Light WRX...Thought I'd share my fixing experience.

Car: MY02 WRX

To make it short, I took a rock on my driver side Fog Light.
So, my lens/glass/cover was broken.

For those looking for more information....

The back of the driverside fog light assembly is labelled:

L 12V 55W H3

Im guessing this means, Left Side, Voltage Amount, Wattage Amount, and Bulb Size.

Anyways, I got my hands on a Right Side/Passenger Side WRX Fog Light. Thanks to Tommy of MPJ Performance. Good guy btw. Hmm.......

Problem!: WRX Fog light I received was meant for the passenger side/right side, and my broken fog is for the driver side.

So, I thought, no problem. Since the lens was broken and not the assembly (all the other parts not including the lens), I could swap out the broken lens/cover for the good lens/cover.

Wrong!: I spent about 2 hours trying to remove the glass lens cover off the fog light. There are two attaching clips from the lens to the body. So i removed those, then I paid close attention to the glass len to realize that there is some kind of adhesive glue keeping the glass lens attached to the fog light assembly. Fine, I was up for the challenge.

This was some really good adhesive/glue. I spent about 2 hours with a heat gun and 4 different kinds of adhesive removers. Goo-Gone, JASCO adhesive remover, paint thinner, and plastic dissolvers. This in combination with fishing line and dental floss.
This lens would not come off.

Im pretty sure i dissolved the adhesive down to celluar level. I dont know what is keeping this lens attached to the fog light assembly. The glass is too fragile to pry off ( I tried prying off the broken fog light lens *crack* *crack* )

That idea was gone, so I just installed the passenger side fog light on the driver side. Aside from rotating the assembly to match the fog light bolt holes, it is a good fit. The wiring harness fit no problem. It was a simple bolt on.

The only issue someone has with this is that the SUBARU lettering on the glass is going to be on the right side instead of the bottom of the lens.

So...esentially if your wondering if you swap a passenger side fog light for a driver side fog light. You can.

Things to note:

- The car does not throw an error if you swap fog lights for the wrong side.

- You can't swap the lens/cover/glass only.
(Unless someone else found a way)

- Pretty Simple Bolt On.

The beam is wrong if you do this.....the fog light beam is a wide flat beam and if you do what you said an mount the light rotated 90°...the beam is vertical, rather than horizontal....

Get the right light.
