I have a question about the safety of an aftermarket hood. The OEM hoods have specific weak points in spots. Open your hood and look at the bottom outside edge and you will see an indent where it's designed to fold and bend up. This is so if you have a frontal impact the hood will fold rather than come through the windscreen and take off your head or somehting like that. Do the aftermarket ones have this too? And if they don't are there any insurance ramifications? I always wondered about that. Anyone know?

lighter? yes. a lot lighter? no.
the OEM hood is aluminum and weighs about 16 pounds. the fiberglass/carbon hood I got weighs about 5. You'll never notice the difference unless you've already taken out your seats, stripped your interior...etc.
I have one....somone hit my car in a parking lot with a raised SUV that missed my bumper completely and yes the hood folds up
I wouldn't worry too much about the aftermarket one not doing that..it'll snap in half and break into pieces if it gets hit.
I'd say that unless you need one anyway (because your OEM hood was ruined) its not worth it.
the one I got has extra heat vents in it (its a C-West V2 with scoop), and it does lower your underhood temps....but it leaves your motor exposed to dirt and rain...so there's trade offs. It does come with covers so you can keep the dirt out though. I also had mine pained to match body color because a gray hood on a blue car looks gay.
