Question Engine Detailing Questions

Sup everyone,

i was just wondering if anyone detailed their own engines here? when i first bought my car ( from Alchemy Motors) the engine was SPOTLESS , Jeremiah had gotten the engine detailed and it was amazing. Now almost a year later ( and alot less stock, haha) i find the urge to detail my engine. there's a few vids on youtube about engine detailing but those seem a bit sketchy. i was just wondering how water tight our engines are? i'm a bit cautious with just hosing down the engine with water because of the alternator, battery, dp, turbo etc etc, i don't have my heat shields anymore so thats why i'd rather be safe than sorry. anyone do their own detailing? if so , POST UP!!! Thanks!

Just make sure your intake box or whatever you have sealed or covered and blast away with a high pressure washer thats what I did. also i used the meguiars engine cleaner spray worked like a charm.

There's a great "tutorial" on Autopia.

yeah... at the dealership we just hit some spots with de-greaser and blast it with the hose, then mist some armor all (or equivalent, the dealership used T.O.C.) then shut the hood and drove it out of wash bay

that works but it is also nice to re-open the hood and wipe things down, maybe add more detail spray....

so yes you can hit the engine bay with SOME water...I like to keep the car running...seems to help let the car restart later and help the "spray" dry.

I've used pressure washers for years. Spray degreaser throughout on a cold engine, let it sit, flexible detailing brushes, bottle brushes, work that crap around, blast it with a pressure warsher. pay particular attention to the block area, cross member, the little nooks and crannies where the dirt hides. Here's a cool trick, dry with a leaf blower. I use a B&D, it has a wind force of 230MPH. dries it up real nice. Another little bit I love, WD-40. Keep it off the belts but everything else; you can spray the hell out of it. It makes the hoses and black trim really pop. Most of the time just try to avoid the engine wiring harness plugs, MAF, Alternator. The pressure washer uses very little water to get the job done. Keep on it, if you let it get out of hand it's just going to take that much longer to clean next time. If you throw a CEL. Don't worry about it it usually goes away after the engine warms and thing dry up a bit better.

clean

I clean my engine at least once a month for the last 5 years, my 02 wrx now has 120500 miles on it and still have not had aney problems with it.
Just cover the alt with a small plastic bag and cover your air filter (if aftermarket) then spray degreaser (i like bleach white) all over the engine, just try not to get it on the exterior of the car, and spray a little extra on the tuff spots, and let it set for a few, then just take the water hose to it..
