Dome Light Problem/General Lemon?
Hello,
The dome light in my 2002 Legacy GT Limited (60K), when placed in the "door" position (in which it only is supposed to come on when doors are unlocked via keyless entry, or when doors are opened) seems to be malfunctioning, and turning itself on and fading to off whenever it feels like it. This AM on my commute it was on and fading off for the entire 45 minute ride. To remedy this, I simply put the light in the "off" position but I have to admit I am displeased that it seems to be malfunctioning since I have never even touched the switch since I have owned the car (I bought it new). Has anyone else had this happen, and if so what did you do to fix it?
I am not happy with the fit and finish of my Sube, I have taken really good care of it but I have had some recurring issues. A piece of leather is separating from around the door handle, the engine has a knocking problem (supposedly common to '02s?), the driver's side tweeter speaker fell off the door and was hanging by the wire, it blew a headlight early on. I know most of these are just cosmetic and are typical car "quirks", but these are things I did not expect from a car of Subaru's caliber, and I still am hoping to get another 100K out of this vehicle so I hope this is where the quirks end. Any thoughts on quality of '02s? Thanks.

You have a few problems with a light and the leather and a speaker and your posing the question if your car is a "general lemon". This is not a Bently, Ferrari or anything of the like. No it is not a lemon but expect these SMALL problems.

I get what you are saying but I still find these quirks and problems unacceptable. Especially the perpetually knocking engine. I did not expect these things when I chose and purchased this car. I had a Honda before this and the fit and finish was perfect and I never had one mechanical problem. Overall yes, my Legacy is great, I absolutely love it and I plan to keep it for another 80-100K if at all possible, granted everything holds up OK. I am just disappointed because I never hear of these quirks in other people's Subes.

And thanks Leap...I did what you suggested and found that it originated from the trunk and it's all taken care of now.
