Clearcoat????
What the heck is "clearcoat"?
I mean I know what it is but I mean what exatcly is it, and where can I get it without paying an arm and a leg for it. Is it in home depot?

well... you can get lacquer-based clears in spray cans from pep boys or the like. however, if you're thinking about doing a car, particularly in entirety, you'd probably want something a little better. it can be rather expensive. the only place i can think of off the top of my head would be house of kolor -- they make all sorts of paint products from primers to kameleon colors, but it's a bit steep. still, might be a good place to start looking/learning, or to find good search terms for google or whatever:

Thanks, I was thinking of doing some small car parts at the hobby shop on base as an expirement. Plus home depot has a very lightwieght and portable aircompressor for like 100 bucks so I just started dreaming.

Spray cans work great if you're patient. I've gone to local autobody supply shops (in the SFBA) and special ordered my WRX paint for $20/can. I painted my sideskirts this way. IMO, more important than the price of the paint you buy is PREPARATION. Clean things VERY well and put the right stuff on. Figure out if you need adhesion promotor, or a flex primer. Use the right number of layers for each type of coat (primer, paint, clear). Don't get spray happy
(and don't get high off the fumes either
).
