Cheap Interior Panels
Cheap Interior Panels
It was bound to happen sooner or later, but something has broken on my car. In this case it was the cheap felt covered cardboard panel in the trunk. I was shuttling my old turbo and manifold in the back and while it was padded pretty well, I think the weight was too much for the cheap panel and it tore out of one of the holes and now sits at a really ugly angle. Do people usually take these panels out, replace them with anything (If I was better at laying CF, I'd redo them with it), or just deal with them being messed up?
Wrong forum, sorry, this should have gone into interior. I chalk this up to n00bage and I cannot delete it.

Its the felt piece right next to the center plastic piece on the aft-most part of the trunk. Because it won't stay in place now, there's a gap. I've been considering either trying to lay epoxy on the felt piece around the hole to give it some strength and rebuild it, but I know it, or the other connections will pull out if anything remotely heavy lays against the panels again.
I was just curious if other people had any solutions to this. I considered laying out a trunk cover in either CF or Kevlar (we have a composite shop at work) but that'd be an awful lot of work, if it's pretty common just to tear that cheap stuff out and go commando as it were.

I would just somehow strengthen that hole so you can mount it again and be done with it. In the future when you carry heavy items just try to take a bit more care with them. You could also pick up a cargo net for your car - just buy one off of www.subaruwrxparts.com. The one from the 93-01 RS will work in any WRX sedan

Thanks for the heads up!
My integra had the rear floorboard removed and glassed in with wood for a speaker system, which got yanked out when I started AutoX with it, so I was sort of used to throwing carparts in the back and not worrying about them knocking the panels off.
While I'm happy with the rest of the car, I sort of wish they'd spent the extra two pounds in weight and made the panels out of a durable plastic.
