I would say it's more for style and aesthetics than for performance. That is, the difference in weight is fairly negligible.

I agree it is not worth it. The stock hood is really light as it is.

Thnx.

Found out that the original aluminum hood weights around 7,5kg (16lbs) and its no need for a cf hood then :-)

I just got a C-west CF hood. Yes, its a little lighter, but unless you've alreadly pulled your passanger and rear seats, console, and all the trim, and you're looking so squeeze that last .001 second out of the car....its really not worth it. I just got it because someone hit me and dented my hood. It was cheaper to buy the CF hood and paint it than buying an OE hood.

here's a link if you want to see

Blarg - The hood is tight but it looks like you need to put on a Full 4 Piece body kit to make the kit flow nicely with the car.

yeah I'm looking for something eventually....the hood was really more of a quick fix because of a little hit-and-run. I'm looking for a body kit that doesn't reduce ground clearance. At the very least I'll have to get the C-west grille with the little dip where the snorkel goes to increase airflow.

but before I get any more body parts, I'm going to spend some cash on a street legal TBE due out in about 4-6 months.

none of my friends actually NOTICED that I had a different hood....even my girlfriend....she just said "did you wash the car or something...looks different...oh! you got the dent fixed"

she DID however like it and though it looked better than OE once I pointed it out to her....and she's the one who's really against car mods....sucks when you're the only one in your circle of friends that's into performance cars....

P.S. you DO have to fiddle with it a bit to get it to fir right....I had to take the hood latch off the car and lenthen the mounting holes in it with a drill press so that I could lower it and make the hood sit right...and once I got the stoppers adjusted right it stopped flapping/vibrating.

the car does seem to stay more responsive in hot weather, and becomes responsive faster after sitting in traffic with the AC on for a while...but I'd still ditch this mod if I didn't need a new hood anyway. You can do WAY better mods with that much money.

If you want it to look carbon fiber, you could always paint it black!

Some CF hoods are heavier. Some are lighter. Depends.

The one that is about 6lbs lighter is the Monster Sport hood.

Blarg makes me jealous , his hood is the one I covet , and I could care less how light it is as tight as that hood looks.
His GF's inability to tell the new hood from the last is due to the lack of a wedding ring I am sure. A CF hood is not an easy thing to slip by my Eagle Eye Master , however the freshly ordered Accessport hasn't even raised an eyebrow!I will come up with a sob story one day and tell her I'll just settle for a CF Scoop and chuckle as I play with my other new toy!!!

I'm actually in the same boat with the accessport. easy to slip by...and besides...I don't let her tell me how to spend my money and I don't tell her how to spend hers

Still waiting for the accessport to show up....but I had a DAMN good reason for the hood....someone crashed into my original one

...and the CF hood was no more expensive than fixing the old one or getting a new OE hood and painting it...so why not upgrade?
