Burning the tip on a Ti exhaust

Yo

A friend of mine recently received his Turbo XS Titanium muffler from world one performance. The tip was supposed to be burned to get that blue and orange. Therein lies the problem. Does anyone know how to do this? Do we just need to take a torch to it or is it more difficult than that? Turbo XS offered to do it for him but he had to pay shipping there and back. TIA!

It should've come directly from the factory with the blued tip. I highly advise AGAINST trying to blue it yourself considering that you'd need immense amounts of heat to change the color of titanium, and that with this sort of high heat it'd be very easy to make a mistake, likely a costly one. What I don't get is why Turbo XS didn't send it out blued to begin with or at least send out some of its shipment blued, the others not

Its my exhaust that he was asking the question for. I thought it came pre burned as well, but on TurboXS's updated website they have a caption that now states that the actual unit shipped is not burned blue. Go figure, just my luck. I have all of the necessary tools to do the job myself, but my friend and I were just checking to see if anyone else has dared to try this.

I have tried searching numerous places with absolutely zero luck. If you see anything let me know. Apparently TurboXS decided they weren't going to burn them anymore. Not sure why? I guess I will just ship it back to them and let them do it.

Doesn't the blue color occur from using the muffler on the car?

Just take a propane torch and start buring the tip in circular motion. Make even passes around the surface of the tip. You want to be "burning" it from the back. So that you are aiming the torch into the exhaust and move it around.

I have done it like 10 times. As long as you do it evenly, it will look uber cool.

Naw, if the exahust got hot enough to blue the tip, the bumper would be melted too

BTW, you don't live over on Joost St. do you? WRB WRX with a 22b wing? I read about your run-in with SFPD on Foerster. I live in the neighborhood

haha Alex, thats exactly what I did but I used MAPP gas and did it on the entire muffler. It looks so sweet! MAPP gas just burns hotter than propane but I tried both and they each work. Its really easy!

Thanks for the replies. Sounds pretty easy. Would an Acetylene torch work?
