Boost Gauge

hey everyone, I want to get a boost gauge for my 02 rex but I don't want to pay $100 for something that doesn't really do anything for my car. And I on't want one gauge, becuse two or three with the pillar becomes costly. Where can i get a cheap boost gauge from? Is there a boost gauge I can get that lights up the stock green color without geting the OEM boost gauge? All experience is greatly appreciated.

thank you

I wanted to get the Defi Boost Gauge, but after getting the pod, control unit, and boost gauge it was over $300. So I went cheap for the time and bought something that worked and looked okay. I went with the Glow Shift Boost Gauges and an Autometer triple dash pod, the Boost Gauge was mechanical and amazingly accurate and was around $40 shipped from GlowShift.com. Here are some pics:

After that, I missed my clock and wanted a clean OEM look, so I picked up a stock boost gauge for $20 from the classifieds and I LOVE IT!

Just remember you get what you pay for... if you get a cheap pod, then your car will look cheap.

The Glow Shift gauge itself looked nice. I had the 7-Color Adjustable Tinted Series one.

what about a 52mm defi gauge? i know those come with green backlight and red needle and a 52mm gauge is a lot cheaper compared to a 60mm one.

hope that helps

I'm not saying I'm going to do this but does anyone have the glow shift kit from ebay? This kit more specifically: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-06...31424743QQrdZ1

And what's the point of the gauges being tinted, so you can't see them when they're off. Does this affect the light output at night?

And I noticed today that my pillars, where I'd be putting the gauge, is like a beige color and not black like I had thought. Does anyone have the set up I'm talking about?

And where's the easiest place to put a boost gauge? Is it on the A pillar like I plan to do? I don't want to screw any holes in my dash or anything like that and I also only want one gauge, the boost gauge.

thanks

I have the glow shift boost guage. I love it. The only problem that I have is that it can be difficult to read during sunny days.

no, glow shift gauges are mechanical, like most other gauges under $200+. For example, the gauge is mounted in the car with vaccum hose running to the bov line, where it is tapped with a t-fitting and only has two other wires, a ground and illumination.
you should use brass but the kit comes with plastic so go to kragen or auto zone and get a nice brass t-fitting and 6' of nice vaccum hose for $10.

i would suggest buying a pod from another company, like autometer which is the one seen in my pics and can be purchased for about $60 online.

You can buy beige paint if it really bothers you, most people just run with it black or buy the whole a-pillar triple pod that comes the same color as your stock a-pillar.

its easy to put on the dash in the triple pod because you can use the stock clock's illumination and ground wires, plus easy access to the firewall. if you put it on your a-pillar you will be drilling permanent holes in your oem a-pillar, i didnt want to so i got the triple pod. you can always mount it on the steering column as well though, oem style

so the stock mount doesn't require drilling holes anywhere? How does the stock mount hoop up? Does it use adhesive to stay in place?

thanks

If you're referring to the OEM boost gauge, it does require drilling holes in the steering column cover to mount the pod.

does anyone have this pod: http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/index...ROD&ProdID=211

I want to know if I'd have to screw a hole in my pillar for this one or if it just slides on, etc.

And I'm guessing it would have to be painted to match the grey pillar color right?

thanks
