ahh my headlights are gone

ok so heres the problem. I had h.i.ds on the car for about half a year and my right one went out, or I dont even know if it is dead or not because sometimes its on sometimes its off, so I just took off the whole kit to return it and get a new one under warrenty. So after taking the h.i.d kit out, I put my stock bulbs back on and now it doesnt work. wth? I check the fuse's and the right headlight was burnt so I replaced that, and then I thought it might just be the bulbs so i went to go buy some oem ones and it still doesnt work. Now i am driving with my high beams on.

My question is since I have done stuff to my car like exhuast and etc... will the dealer still fix my electrical problems? Isnt there like a seperate warrenty for like electrical problems, like It wouldnt matter if moded my car?

Your warranty can't be voided in entirety, only individual claims can be denied if the dealer can verify that the failure was caused by modification or abuse. In this case, since you installed HIDs and that may very well be the reason for your lights not working, I would not be surprised if the dealer refused to perform the repairs for free.

^ what he said, you probably can't get it covered under warranty, especially since HID retrofits aren't legal. You might just have to pay for it (much as that sucks), try the dealership first, and shop around before committing.

If they're paying attention they'll probably be able to tell, damage to wiring, any melting, stuff like that. HIDs really don't mix well with systems intended for Halogen, damage usually results unless you upgrade all the wiring, housings, etc.

You didn't fill out your Car field in your member Profile so we don't know what model car you drive.

In the Impreza, HID headlights were only installed on the STi, not the WRX or RS models. The dealer knows this and can tell the factory parts from aftermarket retrofits easily.

I know it's tempting to try to get work performed under warranty whenever possible to save money but fraudulent claims are the main reason why SOA (Subaru of America) are oftentimes very strict when it comes to fulfilling even legitimate claims. Warranty service is not free. The technicians still must be paid and parts must be ordered to effect repairs on a vehicle. Please consider this before ever trying to have SOA perform warranty service when it is not applicable.

How did you wire your car? Since the only stock wiring I used for my HID retrofit on my '02 WRX was just to switch a relay on. I didn't want to use the stock wires to pull the power required for HIDs (why you should have a relay for HID retrofits). However, if you tried using the stock power system for your HIDs, I'm pretty sure you're SOL because the wires aren't meant to carry as much power which is needed to ignite the bulb.

I'd first get a multimeter and find someone who knows the Subaru wiring pretty decently and try to diagnose where the power isn't coming from. Heck, for all we know, it could be that you blew your bulb out because of a higher rated fuse than the stock one.

Wingless: The warranty should be covered if you use a relay since everything stock is still operating how stock should work correct? Since a relay uses the stock wires to only open a switch which allows power to go through wires from my battery to the bulb, which in no way effects the stock wiring. I am one who also looks down at people who blow up something doing some aftermarket parts and wuss out when they need to pay for it.

They'd probably still void the warranty, and there's really isn't much you can do about it.
