05 STi Cluster Color change

Did a quick search and didnt come up with anything on here (unless i missed it)

So I searched all the threads (I think anyways) on nazioc and there doesnt really seem to be any "newer" ones for an STi. I checked out these two threads:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hlight=led+gel
by mechie3
and
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690378
by Trunk_monkey

Those are for a Wrx and use the scraping/gel methods. They say the STi is different because it has red bulbs already in the cluster? And if you change the 2volt reds with a 3volt blue, the color will be dimmer.

Has anyone changed the STi cluster to blue yet?

Ive got an 05 STi cluster im going to put in my 02 wrx but would like to change the color before doing so.

so went to a local shop that does this type of mod to all types of cars.. and found out a few things

The STi cluster does not use LED's, they use SMD's and they are WAY smaller.
There are 23/24 of them in there and the SMD's cost $3 per... plus $80 for them to do it. So it was going to be around $160!

Too much! But idk if I would be able to do the soldering myself...

These are the demensions of a pretty standart SED:
View angle: 120 degrees
Intensity: 70 to 550mcd
Forward current: 20mA
Forward voltage: 1.8 to 3.8V
Application: made of flexible PCB with self-adhesive backing
Dimensions: 3.2 x 1/6 x 1.1mm (1206)
