04 STI Hood Scoop question

I was wondering if anyone has put the 04 STI hood scoop on their 04 WRX and whether they needed the scoop insert seen below...

http://fastwrx.com/stihosc2.html

Is that insert really needed???

I just put the STi Hood Scoop on my 04 WRX last weekend. No you don't need anything but the scoop itself.

n00b question, does the scoop just pop out? i thought it was molded to the hood.

also, why would u want to put the STi scoop on your car? you dont need to increased amount of air, plus its a little ricey adding STi show-parts to your car. people will think you have an STi since one of the give aways is the larger scoop. iunless you have done an engine swap or really need the increased air flow. IMHO.

it actually is functional . . . just puts more air to the intercooler, which is never a bad thing.

ive read either here or on clubWRX that the STi scoop brings in too much air for the smaller WRX intercooler to use and so its not helping at all.

I don't know about other people, but I didn't do it for performance gains. I like the look of the bigger, more aggressive scoop.

why would binging more cooler air thru the intercooler/engine bay not help at all. wouldnt that bring down engine/intercooler temps?

imo STi badges/stickers on a non-STi is rice. not functional/performance STi parts.

just my $.02

besides, if you plan on upgrading the IC then it's worth it even if it doesn't in fact do anything for the stock unit

It's all about more flow to the i/c and the engine bay. It can only help. People who say it is rice because it's not an STi need to learn! I can see STi badges on a WRX unless you have the mods to back it.

anyways back to your question......
isn't the scoop insert just the vertical plastic pieces in the front of the scoop.
i cant see paying an extra $94 just for that.

try PM "myroncuz" here on i-club.....he has an 04' wrx w/STi hood scoop. he can help you. you can find him in the hawaii forums.
