04 STi HID BLULBS?

So the stock replacement bulb for the STi LowBeam is a HID D2R bulb that is 150$ at Carter Subaru I guess? But is there other HID bulbs that arent factory that will work assuming the temps are the same, thoughts?

The retail on OEM HID bulbs is rather expensive. However if you look around online, including EBay, you can find them brand new for much less. Just be sure to get brand name bulbs (Phillips, Osram, Hella) in the proper type (D2R) and color temperature (4300K). Avoid aftermarket bulbs or higher color temps.

Have you by any chance opened your headlights to clear them, or has a previous owner done so? If so it's possible they were not fully resealed and water has gotten in them, disabling the ballast. This is a common occurrence when STi lights are cleared. If this has happened you may be able to remove the ballast and dry it out, if it still does not work it will need to be replaced.
You should also check the headlight fuses to see if one has blown.
The original bulb can be tested by swapping it into the light on the other side that still works, that will confirm if is actually good.

Good luck, I figured as much since this is about the only reason for the STi HIDs to fail, they are very reliable otherwise.
