02 wrx seats in 98 OB

my friend totalled his wrx i think its a 2001-2002...i can find it out if it turns out to be important. anyway, the seats in my 98 outback are pieces of sh*t...as they are just old and the upholstry is more or less ruined. i could prob get his seats for cheap so im gonna go take a look in a couple days. does anyone know if the brackets are the same? I'm hoping the specs would just let me do an easy switch of the seats...any help would be appreciated.
Sybir just swaped '02 wrx seats into his '97 OB. The install was fairly painless (I helped/watched him do it). We had to replace the seat belt clasps on both seats (one bolt on each chair). The major difference is that the rails of Legacy/OB seats have 5 bolts holding them in place where as the WRX rails only had four and the four holes on the WRX rails matches up with four of the bolt holes. So you'll end up with some extra bolts, no biggie
As for wiring, Sybir had to give up his electric seats and there were side impact air bag wiring on the WRX seats that had to be disregarded. On the driver side seat belt clasp, there is a 'seat belt fastened light' wire that you need to unplug (as you are taking out your old seats) and plug back in (after you transfer the clasp over to the WRX seats).
I think thats all you'll need to know. I'll point sybir in the direction of this thread so he can put his thoughts in.
Just so you know, these seats ride a bit higher then the OB seats, but other then that, they are way more comfortable.

What he said
I had seat heaters, that I gladly gave up, and that's the only downside. You get used to the higher seat height, and with the OB, you don't need to worry about head clearance; I'm 6 feet tall, and clear fine with a helmet.

They should, with the same qualifiers on height. The 04's are unchanged structurally within the cabin, it's just a different seat design. How tall are you? If you're planning on autoxing, or anything else requiring a helmet, you may have isses if you're over 6 feet tall.
