Repairig paint dings
I'm getting small chips in my paint finish that's starting to show rust. Since the Subarus don't seem to have any undercoating for the paint, what's a good spot fix for cleaning the pits and resealing to prevent future rust following a touch up paint?
Thanks, Jim

They do have a base coat, it just sucks. Subaru paint is known to be thin.
Rustoleum makes an application that both seals the spot and deactivates the rust, that might be worth a shot. I've never used it on a car. I bought Griot's rust remover and it seems to work well as long as the rust isn't really bad:

Stone chips detract from the appearance of your car but also can provide toeholds for rust to begin. You may not be able to make your car's finish look showroom new but with a reasonable level of competence you can make your car look much better without resorting to an expensive trip to the body shop.
