Rear Hatch License Plate Grommet

Hello To fellow members:

I'm a very new member to the forum and the STI. I have a question on the 5-dr rear hatch license plate grommet, hope that someone could offer some info. The dealer only used 2 screws for the rear plate. They later on installed 2 additional bottom screws to secure the license plate frame. I noticed the bottom screws are longer than the top.

Just wondering what's behind those 4 white color plastic grommet for rear license plate? Will the metal screws damage any wiring or anything if the screws are a bit long?

I tried seaching for any perspective drawing of the rear hatch, but nothing turned up. Thank you in advance.

why not go to the hardware store or an automotive store and get the correct size screw. it should cost less than a dollar

I think they are asking if there is anything in the door that could be damaged if he chose to drill some holes and install the lower screws.

I would suggest opening it up and see where the wiring is ran. Chances are it should be fine to put the lower screws in.

no his car already has the 4 white plastic grommets. i was saying if he is worried about the screws he has for the bottom being too long, and it doesnt seem like he wants to rip his hatch apart to see if there is anything behind there. so i was just suggesting getting the right sized screws so he doesnt have to worry about shorting out a wire or anything. i fairly certain there is no wiring behind the bottom set of screws but i own a sedan and not hatch or i would go figure it out for him.

Gotcha. Ya he could just use short ones or even a bolt compared to a screw if he's worried about hitting any wires

I've opened up the hatch seen the back of the plate (rear light tint/rear view camera) and there's nothing to worry about. As long as the screws aren't too long to secure the license plate tight, i wouldn't worry about it. And like dub said, if it worries you that much, buy shorter screws.

There is nothing behind that will get damaged. I recently pressed hardware into my front and rear plates, then put the screws on from inside the trunk and behind the front bumper so nobody can unscrew my plates from outside the car. In the hatch, there's nothing for at least an inch behind the grommets.
