HELP! Removing rusted brake drums.
 

I'm going to switch out the brake drums on my 93 Impreza with new ones, but I ran into a problem. The drums are really rusted on and its near impossible to get these suckers off. Have anyone had this problem before and how do I deal with it?

I would think that first you want to get them cleaned off in that area as much as possible. Any Rust remover that's strong (heck WD-40 might work) and a metal brush to scrape it off might let you diagnose the situation better. Can you snap a picture of where the build up of rust is based on where you are having trouble?

Find 2 high-grade 12mm bolts (head size; the ones holding the rear seat cushion on are the correct thread but not strong enough) and use them to pop off the drum. There should be two tapped holes inside of the lug circle on each drum. It is the same method for removing rusted-on discs. Tapping/pounding with a hammer or mallet will help, but won't do the job by itself usually.

I used that method on an Eclipse, works good... Also heating with a torch can help loosen it up...

Make sure the EBrake isn't engaged. PB Blaster it, and use a rubber mallet.
