Wtb vf39
Looking to put in a direct bolt on turbo for the 2005 forester xt.
Read the vf39 is the cheap affordable way to go since im not looking for big ho/tq numbers for this dd.
Anyone selling a low mileage great conditioned vf39?
Also since a swap will be taking place, what do i need to buy from Subaru to put in the vf39?

I did a vf39 swap on my 06 wrx. Buy an uppipe gasket, and downpipe gasket. Also recommend having some extra nuts and bolts for the down pipe or uppipe. Reason being, I had one ceased on the downpipe and had to break it. Also, if you have the funds I believe there is a vf48 on Craigslist.

And PBlaster, socket wrench,14mm wrench and socket, and a 12mm wrench or socket. I think it's a 10mm for the EGT sensor if that exists but if not its a 12 or 14
Not sure what else as I don't have the stock downpipe and am not sure what crap that holds on.

Thanks for the tools breakdown,...but i have lots of spare nuts for downpipe and uppipe if i needed it. Nut i just installed both like 2 weeks ago without any problems.
Mostly need to know what may need in terms of copper washers for oil supply line (?) or the little things when bolting up the turbo. Uppipe and downpipe gaskets are new already, so im thinking some coolant and what else?.....

You need to drain your coolant and oil when pulling the turbo, so you'll need fresh fluid for those.
Also, you need bigger injectors to run a VF39 or bigger. Especially if upgrading from the turbo in a forester, which I'm almost positive, is smaller than even the WRX td04.
Just some food for thought..

You pretty much covered all you need.
Here's a few suggestions:
1. change the worm gear clamp to a t-clamp on the turbo inlet so that your inlet lasts longer. Got my t-clamps at Hydra Air.
2. check your coolant line on your turbo to see if it needs to be replaced. if your coolant hose is still pliable, clamp it with a vise grip (not too tight) so that you don't need to completely drain your coolant.
3. check your oil return line to see if it's hard or dry rotted. replace if necessary. don't use a coolant/heater/vent hose for this. it'll crumble after a few months. use a transmission or oil specific hose.
4. 04-05 XTs have the same injectors as the 04-06 STIs. You don't need injectors.
5. I know the 04 XT 5 MT can use the STI ecu. They're pretty much the same ecu minus the map. Not sure if the 05 XT is the same. Or, use open source tuning or AP.
6. you seem to be modding your xt fast. do you want to have my extra set of tgvs? you can port/remove the butterflies (you'll have to delete the tgv cels) or remove flappers, keep the rods and motors intact so you don't get a cel.
7. i broke two studs on my stock turbo and too lazy to replace them. may i have your stock turbo and in exchange, offer my services to install your impending vf39? My ASE certs expired in 2004 but i can still wrench on a suby.

I will let you know on the turbo as i need to still unbolt the downpipe to inspect the shaft for movement and hope to resell it for modding funds. Im doing the swap for the power and prevent future impending doom of the td04.

I read a great thread on nasioc for the turbo swap, but im hoping to not drain all the coolant from the radiator if possible and just clamp the upper coolant hose if its still pliable. Also, no install threads mentioned about the oil, but if i dont drain all the oil then when disconnecting the oil lines from the turbo, oil will continue to leak out?

Anytime bro. You are going to lose a little bit of oil and coolant from the residual in the turbo. The turbo oil line is too far up from the block. Oil won't leak out from the banjo line.

also good to have on hand new copper crush washers for the oil feed line and some spare UP studs because they often break. if the turbo you buy doesn't come with the oil return tube make sure you get a NEW gasket for that and you may want to order the STI restrictor pill in case you have boost issues.

Read on nasioc what ill need for parts if not on the turbo and for the install.
Will oil up new crush washers for the banjo bolt, and new vacuum lines which will have the restrictor pill in it. New coolant hard pipe and return tube part numbers also listed and will pick that up too if i need it.
Now just gotta find a vf39 in good shape and reasonable price.
