Drive to at att store and pick one up for free... Also have them put the correct data plan on your phone and not just put a sim into your phone. Your bill will be supervising high!

i am almost 99.9% positive at&t does NOT give out free sim cards. when my iphone 4 was stolen last year (august), i borrowed my friends android (n1) since i didnt have a backup phone. figured i could use my previous sim card (from my 3GS) since i got a new mico sim when i upgraded to iphone 4. i called at&t customer care and they said they deactivated my previous sim card and that i would have to buy a new one. i assumed they deactivated the previous one because they gave me a brand new one (micro) to use with the new iphone. and i am locked into the iphone data plan since i upgraded to the 4 last year.

alrighty 04caliwrx, i take back what i said.....i think you may be correct. i just went to at&t on my lunch break and was told for certain situations they may provide a sim card....i told her mine, and she was about to hook me up with one.....i wanted to kick my own as$ cause i left the phone at home
she wanted to have the phone there, so i left sim cardless
i said i would be back tomorrow, so hopefully the story doesnt change. stupid customer care told me i had to pay for one myself-i did ask them if they would provide me a new sim and the agent i spoke with said NO. thats why i thought you had to pay for new sim cards, even if your phone is stolen.

^^^^He's right....I work @ the Kalihi AT&T store. Bring down your new iPhone 4 and I'll hook you up with a free micro sim, and I'll port over your phone number, and your phone rate & data plan your currently on. I even have a machine in my office, I can transfer over all your phone book contacts. Just give me 5 mins, no problem. I work tomorrow from 11:30 to closing 8:30. lMK

thanks, guys. i actually just went to at&t in mililani after work and got it all setup! the customer service rep confirmed that yes, if you go to other places like best buy, radio shack, etc. they will charge you for a sim....but in hawaii, if you go to at&t stores it is free! stupid customer service....i guess theyre trying to profit cause they were insistant that i could not get a free one. they did say to go to a local store and buy one....wish i just went to at&t last time cause i actually bought a regualr sized sim card last year:P
dave-didnt know you worked for at&t....since when? what happened to clearwire? you were with them for so long! and thanks for the offer

thats awesome - i know tmo will give you a free one if you need or charge ~$5 for a micro (since none of their phones are micro, but people use them in iphones)
oh for what it's worth, i have a micro sim punch (to punch a full size down) and adapters, will happily punch a sim for free and hookup with an adapter for a couple bucks if needed

i saw those on ebay! the tool used to punch down regular sim cards to micro sized.....i was actually gonna post on here if anyone had the tool! also i noticed that alot of the micro sims on ebay are cut outs......guess its cheaper to cut them out vs. the real deal micro sim?
i just started switching phones so often between full / micro sim versions that i had to buy adapters, so i got the punch while i was at it lol, it's usually cheap / free to get a micro from your own carrier, but rather than go through the hassle, i'll punch mine down the next time i decide to use my iphone on tmo haha
