LF/WTB: Subaru 2.5rs Motor (Urgent).
To be brief, my engine problems have gotten worse, a little too much to explain. My mechanic says the repairs on my motor will cost $1200+(edit), plus not having to drive my car for a month and a half. I might as well buy a new motor that will drop into my GC8 2.5rs (98-01).
In short, looking for a motor that'd fit whether it be turbo or non turbo, as long as it doesn't have a ridiculous amount of miles on it.
Thanks for your time guys.

I've replaced a lot of subaru head gaskets (probably around 100 total, 4 so far this month) and I have never seen a cracked subaru head from overheating.
The heads are probably just a little warped, a machine shop can resurface them in a few minutes. Aluminum heads aren't very likely to crack. Deck the heads and install new gaskets.

Eventually, I'd like to replace the motor though.

I had my original radiator spectacularly fail around 160k miles taking the original motor along with it. Instead of rebuilding that engine, I just bought a low miles (~15k) JDM EJ25 NA block from eBay (very plentiful and usually around ~$750), refreshed all the accessories, and tossed it in the car. I think you need to carry over some accessories from your USDM engine (ex intake manifold), but otherwise it is a straight drop in. The engine came with a 6 month warranty (since expired), but it is still running strong after 2.5 years and 20k+ miles. Less hassle and downtime than rebuilding your high mileage engine IMHO
