LF: up-pipe and gaskets

i threw a check engine code this week and it was relaed to a leak. I went to esh today and they found a leak in my lower bracket of me PDE flex up-pipe. It was comming from the gasket area.

So it it wise to just replace the gasket or should I replace the whoel thing with a solid uppipe somthing like a stock sti or other solid pipe.

Any other shop there can beat the labor cost of $250 to replace the gasket at esh

You could pay a whole lot less if you do the labor yourself. I would recommend getting a solid uppipe because my flex pipe ripped on mine. It isn't that bad changing uppipes. It just takes a little while because you have to take off your downpipe and loosen up your bottom motor mounts and shift the motor a little to get the uppipe in and out. It's not too bad because me and jrocko did mine in my garage. You can also get a gs gasket kit for about $50 shipped on eBay. Subaru is a bit pricey when it comes to those gaskets.

Im using the crucial racing gaskets and they went bad after 2 years. are the grimspeed gaskets and better?
I would love to do in the install my self, but lack the time or knowladge to do it, thats why im willing to pay for it to be done, but dont wanna spend a arm and a leg on the install.

How can I make sure the flex pipe itself is not leaking? Esh said it was the lower gasket, but I wanna make sure its the gasket and not the pipe itself, so I dont waste money on labor 2x once for the gaskets only to find its the pipe.

the grimspeeds are made of metal with a fire ring just like the factory and are twice as thick supposed to help seal. the easiest way to tell if your flex is leaking is to put the car up on jackstands with the car running have someone rev it and feel around the flex section to see if you feel air leaking out

Good looking out Dave. I've been buying it straight from grimmspeed.

This is where I bought 3 sets from. Takes about a week to come in. I changed headers twice and helped to swap pocketrockets headers too. If it's only the lower it is pretty cake and can show you what to do. It is only two nuts and bolts with a little wiggling and the old gasket falls out then you slide in the new one and line it up with the two bolts.

I buy my gaskets from Mark (Rally_WRX)...I just bought 3 manifold gaskets (3 bolt), up-pipe to turbo, and downpipe gaskets...all were made very similar to OEM Subaru Gaskets...no leaks and very happy...

Price was good too...pm him!

Hey...I think I was the guy waiting to buy parts from Rick after you that day (Wednesday) at Servco...you have the Legacy right?

Yeah, pick up your gaskets from Mark, they are just like the Subaru OEM gaskets...no problems what so ever...
