03 wrx bov question

I recently bough an 03 wrx it has a fairly conservative tune on it now and in order to push more boost the previous owner told me to change my bov because the one i have is only rated at 15 psi. I already boost at 14 i wanna got 18 but the extra boost would be lost i believe any suggestions on what i could do so that i can retune annd and actually keep my boost i will be putting a mucch more aggressive tune on her so any help would be appreciated

I was using the stock bpv with 19lbs of boost.

What kind of BOV are you using

I read online that it should be able to hold up to about 50psi. And it's a push style so it only opens when you let off the gas and the piston pulls in to blow off.

I hope this somewhat helps

Stock BPV holds 20psi fine. If you must get a bov, get a recirculated one. I would recommend the Tial QR.

The stock valve will hold 21 lbs. It can be crushed with repeatable results of holding up to 28 psi.

If your car currently has the stock valve, the person giving you advice is a complete moron. If he intentionally put a valve on it that will leak at anything over 15, he's a moron.

yes a stock one CAN hold up to about 20psi but they leak like hell! i wanna say there are a few guys on here that were tuned with the stock BPV and had a leak.... when all they did was change out the BPV to another BOV they all gained about 30+ HP....... Im not a fan of the stock BPV after seeing this happen on more then 6+ cars

Nope. They reliably hold 20-21 psi with no leaks. Anything over that is a crap shoot unless it's crushed. Aftermarket valves are MUCH more prone to leaking because people fail to maintain them or because they never set them up correctly, which is another reason the stock valves are so highly recommend aside from the fact that they are free.

I would like to see these cars you're talking about with leaking valves. In 10 years I've never seen it happen, but you've supposedly seen 6+.

Big power. Again, how much boost are these people trying to run? 23-25 psi? The OP is merely asking about running something more than stock, and for 95% of modified Subaru it is the single best choice simply because they are problem and hassle free.

The is only going to see 18psi maybe 19psi, so the stock bpv is fine.
