ok ok...whats this? brembo over stoptech? thats what i was thinking too...was surfing the web tonite and stumbled across this 8 pot caliper brake kit for the fronts and 4 pots for the rear! made by brembo for you know it ...the wrx/sti's..... cost? a whooping $8K ...thats almost double the price of some turbo upgrade kits...rofl... sorry if this has been posted before....just never heard or seen 8 pots before

No, the $8,000 is just for the fronts. If you want both it's, on sale, $11,000. That's a LOT of coin to drop for identical stopping distances. Blingy though.

I don't see the need for these kind of brakes on street driven cars. Track cars need upgraded brakes to reduce fade and keep consistent pedal feel during a race.

I've driven my STi at over 70 mph at our local SCCA events and the OEM setup is adequate.

BBK for street cars are just for looks and the wow factor.

I got the wow factor too, and agreed those are overkill, even for auto-x. These would be some bad puppies for HPDE events, track days, TT, etc.

 

4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears are overkill even for auto-x. The rotor size and number of pistons gives you more heat capacity for sustained heavy braking (think track days, time attacks, etc).

Super Laps at HRP would not tax the STi brakes. Even track days at Pacific Raceways were fine since there were long straightaways. Not unless we get another track would you even think of needing it.

It is important to also consider the availability of replacement pads, rotors, and rebuild kits for the system. That is why I prefer

 

unless you are runnin some really sticky tires you arent gonna be able to take advantage of that kinda braking anyway. plus lets have a discussion about he unsprung weight...

 

Braking ability is simply a factor of your tires. after the tires loose their ability to maintain grip, they skid. sure you can have million pot brakes, you'll just lock up your tires and skid.

reason for having larger brakes is the ability to take repeditive abuse over and over while disapating heat and minimizing fade. for the track they are great. for Auto-x in a parking lot, oem Brembos found on the STi are more than adequate. throw in some good pads and lines/fluid and you have a winning combo.

gonna go drive the Nurburgring everyday? those brembo 8 pots would rock. i hope you have some R compound tires though.

 

I like the STI oem brakes....knock on wood, but I would call dibs if somebody crashes his/her STI....hehe....

 

Why spend 11k on those monsters when stoptech can get carbon-ceramic brakes for just a bit more? Rotors last the life of the car, weigh have as much and have superior heat dissipation.

 

You could probably get it for cheaper than that retail price though.
I got my 8pot/4pot Brembos for like $2.5k under list price.
